Fiddleheads rarely has used instruments in stock. Our prices are so low, you cannot do much better buying used.
We only purchase used violins and other instruments from a maker with whom we have a relationship or take violins on trade if they meet our picky standards. However Fiddleheads' prices are so low our customers are encouraged to sell their used instruments privately so they don't lose money with a trade.
We do not seek out used violins to fix up and flip. There's enough of that going on with Ebay and some of the seedier auction houses.
When we do take used violins on trade toward an upgrade, the instruments are in top condition to start with. Then they receive the full treatment and cleanup by our luthier with new strings, often new hair on the bow, bridge and post adjustment or replacement, new fittings, and touch-ups to the varnish as needed.
